Thomas J. Furlong, III, my Connecticut cousin who lives close to Danbury, CT
where two of the Gebert lines lived and died, contributed a great deal of
the information [Searched at least 2500 stones out of the 30,000-60,000 estimated
headstones in Wooster cemetery!] for the Wooster graves and still continues to follow up leads for us in the Danbury libraries.
The data from the Connecticut State Death Index and obituaries from the Danbury News Times were provided through the generosity of RAGK [Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness] volunteer, Eleanore Dilello. My second cousin once removed, Beverly Olsen, had given me a vague sketch of who my Connecticut relatives were and I relayed that to Eleanore. Practically every day for weeks, Eleanore sent me more data until I was able to compile the first draft history of the Danbury Geberts.
Then I discovered that RAGK volunteer, Chris Cuhsnick, was my very, very distant cousin by marriage and she did some research, too. RAGK Rita O'Shea of Fairfield found the mysterious Peter and Apolonia Gebert in the Bridgeport area and RAGK Bob Young of the Danbury Gravestone Preservation Project came up with a different copy of Henry J.'s obituary and devised a unique way to tell the tale of the Gebert Fur Co.
I had just started scratching the surface for my Geberts in January 2000 when I found Beverly's February 1999 post searching for Catherine Gruner Gebert. Since then I've been hard put to keep up with the data coming in. During the summer of 2001 I visited New York and the Danbury area and met/visited as many relatives as I could find.
And to the Gebert elders, George F. Gebert, Violet Gebert Anderson, Jane (Jeanne) Gebert, Loretta (Pat) Gebert, and Margarete Erhardt Lewerenz, my father's brother, sister, sister-in-law and cousins for their valuable input.
